1978 – 1981 Triumph TR8

The wedge shape TR7 received a powerplant last 1978. The reliable Rover V8 appeared instead of a V8 unit which spreads like a Triumph Stag. With new V8 tucked under the bonnet, the TR8 became known as “English Corvette” which reflected the fact that the car was sold primarily to the North American market.
Twins Zenith-Stromberg carburetors fitted to the early TR8’s but suddenly replaced in early 1980’s with a Bosch L-jetronic fuel injection system with a Lucas fuel injection (ECU). The twin carburetor reached 133 bhp at 5000rpm mark. Fuel injection improved this further to a respectable 148 bhp and torque at 7.7 seconds.

The TR8 was improved upon TR7 in several areas including the brakes, axle ratio, alloy wheels, and trim. The estimated TR8’s produced during that time is 2500 to 3000. It also includes coupe wedge shape and better looking cabriolet.
The wedge shape was intended to have a targa roof. Most of the work of Harris Mann during that time was compromised due to cost-cutting and the reputation of the car he designed was badly accused of poor quality build. Luckily, the TR8 V8 engine restored its respectability and makes this version of the TR8 shape the most desirable.
